From Sea to Sea: Winter Wonderland

First of all, let me start with a cartoon which fits perfectly into how we felt yesterday.

The weather forecast promised pure sunshine so we decided to take our first tour to the Rocky Mountains. Just a short hike of 1 km to test our fitness level. We chose to hike to the Lower Falls of the "Johnston Canyon".

It was an easy hike, but the c-c-c-cold winter day was very unusual and the Canadian weather is a phenomenon we all have to get used to. First rule: You just have to have the right clothes on.

Can you see the snow glittering? It looked like diamonds.

The Lower Falls plunge 10 meters into a pool. The frosty winter transforms the falls into ice.

After the hike - still alive

After a short lunch break from our packed sandwiches we headed for the next tourist attraction: "Lake Louise".

As we got out of our car, we felt that it was a lot colder than in the Johnston Canyon. It was -23 degrees Celsius and you could litterally freeze your butt off.

But he, we were lucky to wittness a rare vision: Lake Louise with blue sky.

Usually the glacier is covered in clouds, mist or fog.
